Try tobogganing– it’s also for grown-ups!
Do you want to experience the thrill of speed or admire the majestic Lapland views from high up the hill – but don’t feel like skiing? Experience the magic of polar night and toboggan down the longest toboggan slope in Finland!
The Aurora Tobogganing-activity starts with a chair lift ride to the top of fell Kaunispää, from where Saariselkä’s city lights open in front of your eyes as a sea of sparkling lights. The toboggan slope is now illuminated with internationally recognized light art, just follow the aurora lights that guide you back down to the valley for a new run.
The 2000 m long toboggan run has three tracks to choose from based on your skill level. The red track has a couple of turns of moderate difficulty and it takes you back to the ski centre. The blue track runs down to the Centre of Saariselkä. It’s more gently sloping, but you can still achieve decent speeds on it. The green track, which also takes you back to the ski centre, is the easiest and most suitable for small children.
You can take the chairlift near the Ski Shop to the top of the toboggan run. Ski Saariselkä offers an Aurora Tobogganing package including a proper toboggan, a helmet and a 2-hour lift pass for the chair lift.
You can also use any of the toboggans available for free in the Saariselkä area, or you can bring your own toboggan sled. We recommend wearing a helmet in the toboggan run. Ski goggles are a good idea if you want to avoid getting snow in your eyes.
The chairlift takes you to the top of the Kaunispää fell. You will also find a restaurant on the top of the fell.
